Biography
It was said that Tim was born sound asleep and hardly ever slept from that point on. As a child growing up in New York City's Staten Island, he distinguished himself by the "ferocious effort" he applied to everything he did. Tim was musically, athletically, and academically gifted. Tim didn't play the piano, he attacked it. He attended the prestigious Regis High School in Manhattan where he studied Mandarin and sojourned in Shanghai. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. McCormick attended St. Lawrence University and went on to earn a degree at Indiana University. In 2010 Tim joined Indianapolis EMS. The Regis school's motto, Deo et Patriae ("For God and Country"), speaks to its intention to produce men committed to devoting the advantages of their education to the service of society and the underprivileged, and part of the pledge Tim took as an Eagle Scout proclaims a scout should become master of his own powers, get along with others, and find a worthy use for his talents. These are virtues Tim held close and followed every day.
Coworkers say Tim was very welcoming and friendly and his mother recalled her son as a gifted child who consistently put the needs of others ahead of his own. He did not come home for Christmas one year, she noted, because of work obligations. She later learned that Timothy did in fact have off -- but he had voluntarily switched shifts so that a colleague could be home for Christmas with her new baby. Tim spent much of his time at health fairs educating people about CPR, and in 2011 Tim created a video named, "It Gets Better" where he encourages people to embrace who they are regardless of their persona, academic, spiritual, professional, or sexual identity. He reminded everyone that life is not a dress rehearsal.

About 3:30 in the morning of February 16, Tim and his partner, Paramedic Cody Medley, were returning from an assignment. As the ambulance entered an intersection, an auto that had failed to stop at a flashing red light struck them. The force of the impact caused the ambulance to flip onto its side and smash into parked cars. The cab of the ambulance was crushed with Tim and Cody pinned inside. Rescuers feverishly worked to free the two men and provide care. Both were transported to near-by Wishard Memorial Hospital in cardiac arrest where Tim succumbed to his injuries. Tim's was the first EMS line of duty death in Indianapolis.

Honored 2014
