Shawn had great compassion for his patients, was a gentle caregiver and was willing to work long hours under extreme stress. CEO Craig Yale said, "it's a mission, a passion, a purpose and a calling; that's why they do this." Shawn Shreeve, 36, was killed in the line of duty on June 29, 2008. He was one of a three-person medical team aboard a medical helicopter involved in a patient transport. When the helicopter was landing, it collided with another, sending both crashing to the ground. Five people lost their lives that day. Shawn attended the University of Arizona and graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor's degree in business and marketing management. Shortly afterwards, he realized his passion for helping others and went back to school to obtain his EMT certification. He began working with Guardian Medical Transport as an EMT. He then obtained his EMT-I and then paramedic. His dream was to work as a flight paramedic and he soon realized his dream when he was offered a position with Guardian Air. He then obtained his associate's degree in nursing, working a short time in intensive care at Flagstaff Medical Center. He then returned to Guardian Air transitioning to a flight nurse/paramedic. He loved every minute of his job and had a great sense of humor.Honored 2009 |
