Gail Hauck was a single mother raising four boys, ages 14 to 19, in Webster. She was dedicated to being a good mother and serving others as she worked in the health care field. After her marriage to Glenn Hauck, the couple made their home in McLaughlin and then Edgemont before moving to Webster in 1986. She worked at Ampride and did home health care. In 1995 she graduated as a registered nurse from Presentation College in Aberdeen. She then became an intensive care nurse at Avera St. Luke's Hospital and had been a flight nurse since 1998. She loved being part of the Careflight crew and would do anything for the program.<br />

Gail Ann Hauck, 40, died in the line of duty on September 9, 2002. She was part of a medical team involved in a patient transport. The helicopter went into a spin and crashed into a soybean field.<br />

She loved the excitement and the caring aspects of her job. Gail was very active in Boy Scouts. When she was not working, she enjoyed spending time with her sons. They spent many hours on family projects and activities.<br />
