"Marshall had a love for his job as a pilot and as a deputy sheriff," Assistant Sheriff Marshall stated. "This man never wavered in any assignment; he had a can-do attitude." Marshall was known for his dedication to his job and his family.<br />

Marshall Butler, 46, of Pahrump, Nevada, was killed in the line of duty on September 7, 2002 when the medical helicopter he was piloting crashed in California en route to a car accident in a desolate mountain pass. The Pahrump Medical Helicopter was operated by Mercy Air Ambulance of Fontana, California.<br />
<br />
They were angels of mercy so the helicopter was nicknamed "Mercy." Marshall has flown medical helicopters for quite a while and "he is very competent and very efficient," stated Nye County Sheriff Wade Lieseke. "He was a good officer, a highly experienced pilot and a family man devoted to his wife and children. He was just a great guy, very outgoing and he will be missed."<br />
