Kurt Batterman stated "we miss Kathy terribly - we wish she were still with us physically, but she lives on in her family and through the lives of others she's touched." Kathy was at the top of her profession, respected and known all over the United States for her reputation and leadership.<br />

Kathy Batterman, 44, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was killed in the line of duty on April 4, 1999. The crash occurred after the crew had dropped a transport patient at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. After leaving the hospital, the helicopter was flying around Mount Charleston toward Pahrump, when the team encountered a blinding snow storm. The helicopter went down in Indian Springs with no survivors.<br />

Kathy was a premiere flight nurse and one of the originators of Flight for Life which began operation in 1980. She was the first certified flight nurse in the United States and was also a certified emergency nurse, critical care nurse and advanced trauma specialist. She served as a flight nurse for 19 years.<br />

Known for her dedication to her profession, Kathy was just as dedicated to her family. She was such a positive force in her children's lives. She is a real hero and will be sorely missed.<br />
