Biography
"Scott would never want to be a hero, but he was, just by being Scott, "stated Joseph Prad, founder of Mutual Aid Response. "He was doing what he loved to do best, anytime, anywhere, and that was to help people in need. He had a knack for making people feel comfortable, disarming them with gentle humor and a genuine smile," said Black Books' Lori Selke.

Scott Lofgren, 43, of Berkley, was killed in the line of duty on December 18, 2005. Mr. Lofgren always carried emergency equipment in his vehicle and often provided aid in emergency situations. Scott had stopped his car on Interstate 80 during a driving rainstorm to assist in the aftermath of a traffic accident. As he laid down flares, a passing car hydroplaned, went out of control, struck and killed Scott.

Mr. Lofgren was an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter for Mutual Aid Response Services in San Francisco, California. He volunteered as a medic with various Bay Area emergency service agencies. He volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Civil Air Patrol. He had volunteered with the Red Cross in Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He had worked as a Black Rock Ranger since 1999, providing fire and medical services at Burning Man. He also volunteered with the California AIDS Ride and was a medical volunteer with the San Francisco Pride Parade for eight years.

Scott was known for going the extra mile; he had a reassuring way with patients, and the most caring attitude.

Honored 2008
