"It is still hard to accept that what we do has its challenges, but because we love our jobs, we gladly accept them." This is a written statement by Katrina about three months before her death. She truly meant each word.
Katrina J. Kish, 42, of Yucaipa, California, was killed in the line of duty December 10, 2007. She was part of a medical team aboard a helicopter that left the Loma Linda University Medical Center after a transport of an accident victim. The team was en route back to their home base when the crash occurred. There were no survivors.
Ms. Kish was employed by Mercy Air, a subsidiary of Air Methods, located in Englewood, Colorado. She was a nurse at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She also worked in the airborne transport medical services for the county Sheriff's Department.
Katrina had just moved into her dream house and was so happy. Her husband was a firefighter captain; they had a son and the three were always busy. She liked helping people, and she was an involved person who liked to be where the action was taking place. She often worked at other hospitals, and helped out at the sheriff's office.
