Biography
Lisa Hansen, 32, of Cornell, Michigan was killed in the line of duty on March 5, 2006. Lisa had volunteered to help transport a seriously ill patient from Escanaba to Marquette General Hospital. She was part of a medical team caring for a patient who sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident. The rig was stopped on the shoulder of the road waiting for traffic to clear when the ambulance broad-sided it, causing the deadly crash.

Lisa had worked for OSF St. Francis Hospital since 1996 as an emergency nurse. She was awarded the 2007 MNA Nurse Hero award posthumously in recognition of her commitment to her patients, without thought of personal sacrifice.

Cheryl Dykes stated, "Lisa believed that we were all capable and responsible enough to provide compassion and to be the patients' advocate. She treated people the way she would expect to be treated. That day, Lisa made the ultimate sacrifice, giving her own life trying to save someone else's."

Honored 2008
