Biography
In situations where help is needed, we always look to the people we can really count on; Al Gunter was one of those guys. He was dedicated to his job and to his family and seemed to always be there in the time of need. Helping people wasn't just his job, for Al it was a way of life.

Albert Tracy Gunter, Sr., 36, of Kansas Way in Aiken, South Carolina, died in the line of duty on February 6, 2007. Mr. Gunter was traveling to pull his duty shift at the Williston Rescue Squad when his truck ran into trees and burst into flames. There were no braking marks or indications of incident to cause the accident, which led to the theory of health problems as the cause of the accident.

Al Gunter was a paramedic for the Williston Rescue Squad in Williston, South Carolina. He was also a volunteer at Aiken Rescue in Aiken, South Carolina and Aiken County Hazmat. There he was training officer, working on training programs for employees. He worked at South Carolina Couchton Fire Department, and Montmorenci's Fire and Rescue Departments as well. He volunteered with Aiken's youth fire camp for over 10 years, and was one of the first instructors of the "child safety seat inspection" program.

"He was a valuable asset to the community in Emergency Services, he will be sorely missed for that along with being a good friend to many," stated Russell Stillinger, a co-worker.

Honored 2008
