Marna was the nurse you wanted if you ever were in the need of care. She edified what the word nurse meant, and she did it with such style. She had such wisdom and energy and was ever so gentle with her patients. We loved her so much and her absence is felt now and will be for a long time. She was proud to be a flight nurse, and she saw such need for the profession.<br />

Marna Fleetwood, 40, of Brier, Washington, was killed in the line of duty on September 11, 1995. She was one of a three-person team sent for a transport of a pregnant woman to the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Before reaching the patient, however, the air ambulance crashed into the calm slate gray waters off Bainbridge Island in Washington.<br />

Marna was employed by Airlift Northwest as a flight nurse.<br />

The Marna Bloom Fleetwood Guild is named in honor of the beloved flight nurse. The guild benefits Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center to help each child needing health care regardless of their ability to pay.<br />
<br />
A scholarship program established by Airlift Northwest, located in Seattle, Washington, honors those lost in the line of duty. It gives out scholarships during the National EMS Conference in the area of clinical education, and the education of safety and medical training for Emergency Medical Services.<br />
