"Lou was an outstanding public servant who excelled at serving area residents," said Chief Dave Frazier. "You would not want to meet a nicer person, he was a true processional, and he is missed." .<br />

Louis Berra, 49, died in the line of duty death on January 18, 2008. He was pulling duty and had retired to his room. The following morning when he was not up or on a run, so his crewmates checked his room. They found Lou collapsed on his bed, and he was pronounced deceased at the area hospital.<br />
<br />
Mr. Berra served the West County EMS & Fire Protection District as a paramedic for 11 years and was also active with the Frontenac Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years.<br />
<br />
Louis was in excellent physical condition, running 70 miles a week, running six or seven marathons across the nation annually, and was on the Trek Bicycle Racing Team.<br />
<br />
Lou was a very devoted family man. He worked and spent much time in his community; there are many people who owe their life to his expertise.<br />
