Biography
Laura Ann Larson Womble was born October 14, 1957, the middle of five brothers and sisters. She attended schools in Maine and Ohio, graduating from Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Ohio, in 1976 where she played clarinet in the marching band. She received her nursing degree from Tri-C Community College in Cleveland. In high school she worked part-time for a veterinary hospital. Her love of animals carried over into her adult life. She was very giving and caring, always calm in stressful situations, and church was a large part of her life, her father being a pastor.

There was no better or more devoted employee than Laura. She worked tirelessly and selflessly as a rescue worker, mother, and wife. Larry Levy, CEO of Med Flight Air Ambulance, stated, "to lose five good flight rescuers is more then we can absorb at one time. They were all good people and they were all stars in their professions of flight rescue".

Laura, 47, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was killed in a fiery crash of a Med Flight Air Ambulance on October 24, 2004. The air rescue ambulance team was returning to its home base after the completion of a patient transfer from a cruise ship to a San Diego hospital. About a minute into flight all contact was lost on radar; not a sign of trouble from the pilots. All aboard were killed. She worked for Albuquerque Med Flight Air Ambulance as a flight nurse and as an ER nurse.

Laura's nickname was " Dr. Laura". People were always looking to her for advice and to help solve problems. She had a genuine concern for others, with a gift of wisdom, and could usually see right to the heart of a situation. You could always expect a huge hug from Laura, and she was full of fun and warmth. Laura loved her family; they were first always. And she loved most of all her Don; he was her "knight in shining armor". She felt so blessed to be able to travel and share jobs with him. They were not only husband and wife, but they were great friends, very devoted to each other. Laura loved being a flight nurse, loved flight rescue with her husband. It only seemed natural that they died together.

Honored 2007
