John F. Legieko, 19, died on September 25, 2002 due to complications of injuries he received on June 14, 2001. John had driven home from his emergency medical training class held in West Grove, Chester County, Pennsylvania. His jeep was involved in a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer. John's injuries were severe, including a torn aorta. SkyFlightcare subsequently transported him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He survived his injuries and his aorta was repaired. In September 2002, John developed complications due to injuries from the accident. His aorta leaked, causing the young aspiring EMT to die.<br />

John was an active member in the Parkesburg Ambulance Association, located in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. He was a state-certified EMT and had served as an ambulance attendant. In 2000, John received the Junior Fireman of the Year Award.<br />

John was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 217, and volunteered at Brandywine Hospital.<br />
