| "He absolutely loved his work in Emergency Medical Services. He was a natural leader and a natural helper. You know when the good ones are gone; everyday their absence is noticed. We really miss the EMT, the leader and the man," stated a co-worker.<br /> <br /> John Lynn Moore, 42, of Ellerbe, North Carolina, lost his life while attending the scene of an accident on August 19, 2002. He had stopped to assist at the scene of a single car accident on US 220 North, in North Carolina. After assessing the accident, John called for Highway Patrol. While waiting for assistance to arrive, Mr. Moore was struck by a tractor-trailer that lost control and jack-knifed across the highway fatally injuring him.<br /> <br /> Chief Moore was a 17-year veteran with Ellerbe Rescue Squad, Inc. Before coming to Ellerbe, he had been a member with Cordova Rescue Squad in Cordova, North Carolina. He obtained the service rank of 1st Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and had been Chief from 1997 until his death. John was a certified North Carolina EMT-D, Farm Medic, and ERT.<br /> <br /> Honored 2003 |
