Biography
David would pack Matchbox cars and Barbie dolls in his trauma bag for the times emergency calls involved children, stating, "the toys always calmed the little ones down". David himself had a boyish grin and a winning smile. He was known as one of a group that called themselves the "Lost Boyz', after the characters in the movie "Peter Pan". They called themselves that because they loved tooling around with motorcycles and never wanted to grow up. He became involved in Emergency Medical Service when, at the age of twenty-four, he decided, "he had to get a real job". After he became an Emergency Medical Technician, he dedicated his life to help others.David Marc Sullins, 30, died in the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center after an airplane hit it. It was one of four airplanes that struck on September 11, 2001 in the worst terrorist attack on America, a date that will be forever remembered as the blackest day. The smoke was pouring out of the buildings as thousands of its working residents ran for their lives. Many more lay injured and helpless as the first rescue crews arrived to set up triage, and to begin moving the most critically wounded to area hospitals. David had run a couple of those calls, and had returned to the tower to help set up triage. He was last seen running into the burning South Tower when in a matter of minutes it came exploding to the ground killing thousands, including this young EMT worker.Mr. Sullins worked for Cabrini Medical Center of New York City, New York. His job was to respond to New York City Emergency Medical Service calls, with his primary area being Lower Manhattan. His crew remembers him as always displaying a warm and friendly personality. "He had a real pure love for his job," stated Robert Walsh, Manager of Cabrini. He was a great dad to his two young sons, Julian and Cristian.Honored 2002
