Biography
Ambulance Director Steve Wortham said, " Brian's memory will live on in everyone he touched." "We know he still lives," said Wortham. "He lives in our hearts, he lives in the patients that he's treated. He will be along for the ride the next time the sirens sound and every time a life is saved. He was called a ?gentle giant' by his colleagues because he was a big guy with a big heart. You don't easily forget about that type of person."Brian Jennemann, 27, lost his life on July 20, 2001 after a brief battle with meningococcal meningitis, a rare form of the disease. He had suddenly become ill while on the job and the next day did not report to work. That same day he was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where the following day he succumbed to the deadly disease. All attempts failed to save the young man who seemed to understand how precious life is.Writing in his senior yearbook, Brian used a line from the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it." He wasted no time in fulfilling his mission. "His goal in life was to help people, and there is no doubt he attained that goal," said his uncle, David Rupp.Mr. Jennemann was employed by Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services as an EMT. He had previously worked approximately five years for the Yellow Ambulance Company in Louisville, Kentucky. The director there recalled Brian as someone who loved his profession, was always on time, and never complained.A Brian Jennemann Scholarship was set up by his parents to help anyone entering the Emergency Medical Services field that may encounter financial hardships while receiving their training.Honored 2002
