Biography
"All four routinely came to work with the biggest smiles on their faces.""He was a wonderful man. Don was a man that had a lot of compassion," said associate pastor, Debra Sammons of the First Church of God where he attended. "All four routinely came to work with the biggest smiles on their faces. They were very loving people, dedicated to their families as well as dedicated to our family as a group," said Jan Davis, University of Kentucky medical crew supervisor.Don Greene, 46, lost his life on June 14, 1999. The helicopter he served as co-pilot on went down in dense fog shortly after take-off from Julian Carroll Airport in Jackson, Kentucky. He and three others were on their way home to Lexington following a quiet work day. "He really enjoyed flying for UK," stated Mark Conrad, an instructor for Somerset Technical School where Greene had taken aviation mechanical classes.Airman Greene was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an aviation mechanic for Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. from 1976-1982, a helicopter pilot/mechanic for Petroleum Helicopters from 1982-1987, a pilot for the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1987-1988, director of operations and flight captain for Triad Helicopters, Inc. from 1988-1989. Don had been a helicopter pilot for Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. since his return in 1990.Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Judith, and a daughter, Kimberly Nicole, his mother, one brother, 10 sisters, and 4 half-brothers.Honored 2000
