A comrade said, "Don did his best in order to bring about a renewed life and recognized the sacredness and goodness of life. He was always ready to serve and anticipated other people's needs, that's the kind of guy he was. Many times he revived someone and offered them a renewed chance at life. In his own way, he was imitating his Master in these life giving actions."<br />

Donald Martin, 34, served with the Van Buren Fire and Ambulance Department and the Madawaska Ambulance Service as an emergency medical technician. He was employed as a firefighter with the Van Buren Fire Department, working as their driver and operator.<br />
<br />
Mr. Martin suffered a fatal heart attack on August 3, 1998 while responding to a call in Van Buren to search for a juvenile. The missing juvenile was later found, and was fine.<br />
<br />
He is survived by his father, Claude Martin, and a brother, Frank Levesque.<br />
