"She dedicated her time here and was a fantastic cook for the medics," Wilks said. "She would sometimes bake them cookies," said a friend. Those who knew her said Leinweber was always positive with a bright smile and kind words for everyone.
Brenda Leinweber, 46, of South Padre Island was a senior flight medic for Valley AirCare. She was a certified paramedic and training officer for Brownsville EMS. When Leinweber wasn't working at Brownsville EMS, she could be found working the hours away at Harlingen EMS in a career she clearly loved.

Brenda lost her life, along with her two partners on June 5, 1998 in a helicopter crash en route to an accident. The helicopter was owned and operated by Harlingen Community Emergency Care Foundation, Inc. A spokeswoman for Harlingen stated the Valley AirCare personnel were deeply involved in a "community that supports and recognizes our mission."
She is survived by her daughter, Erica Leinweber, parents, Buddy and Lory Moore, and sister, Cindy.
