Tragedy knows no script, it is always sudden and unexplained. It was a standard medical response. They were unloading the gurney, and then the unthinkable happened. For two firefighters the nightmare became a reality. One survived, one did not.
Flags were flown at half-staff in the honor of Timothy J. Hale of Phoenix, Arizona. Timothy lost his life on February 12, 1994 while on a routine rescue call. Helping his partner remove a gurney from the ambulance, a half-ton pickup truck traveling at a reported 60mph collided into the back of the ambulance pinning Tim Hale.

Tim Hale was employed by Phoenix Fire Department as a firefighter/engineer. He was 29 years old.

"Tim is a special part of us...now we must keep our promise never to forget him...what he did, what he was, and what he means to us. Tim is and always will be an important member of our family," said Alan V. Brunacini.
