| Stephanie was an advanced intermediate emergency medical technician with six years of experience with Dare County EMS.<br /> <br /> On Sunday, March 26, 1989, Stephanie and fellow crew member C. C. Duvall responded to an emergency medical call involving a small child who needed to be transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.<br /> <br /> On the return flight, the helicopter struck an unlighted cellular telephone tower under construction directly in the flight path. There were no lights on the tower as required by the Federal Aviation Administration.<br /> <br /> The lights were scheduled to be installed on Monday, March 27, one day after the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Stephanie and C. C. Duvall.<br /> <br /> Stephanie had one daughter, Emily Autumn.<br /> <br /> The child, the last patient flown in the helicopter, was treated at the hospital and released the day after the accident.<br /> <br /> Honored 1996 |
