During the last seven years of his life, Robert learned and practiced emergency medicine and rescue. At the age of 13 Robert joined the Civil Air Patrol to gain experience in ground search and rescue. Additionally, while in high school he spearheaded the formation of Emergency Rescue Incorporated, a group of volunteers assisting Carolina Ambulance while gaining emergency medical services experience. This experience led Robert to become one of the first paramedics certified in South Carolina.<br />
