He had a passion for flying and helping others. Eddy's experience in flying started when he served in the US Army in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief. There, he formed a deep passion for flying that he carried throughout his career. Eddy served in the law enforcement community for over 25 years, retiring as a Chief Deputy of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.As a member of the Sheriff's office one of Sizemore's jobs was to operate the department's helicopter and many times he assisted the Kentucky State Police in their marijuana eradication efforts. He left law enforcement to pursue his true passion of flying and helping others. He was offered a job with Manchester based Air Evac as a pilot. There he flew numerous medical missions and was able to help hundreds of people in their time of need. Even after leaving his job as a Sheriff's Deputy, Eddy often returned to visit his former co-workers and was often in his flight suit. His coworkers would often see him and knew he was happy with his new job.The Air Evac Lifeteam crew was returning to their Manchester base after transferring a patient to Saint Joseph London in Laurel County when the helicopter crashed. Pilot Eddy Sizemore, Flight Nurse Jesse Jones, and Flight Paramedic Herman "Lee" Dobbs perished in the accident.Eddy was a devoted husband and father whose wife, Pam, describes him as the "love of her life."Honored 2014 |
