Mrs. Adams was born on April 6, 1970, a daughter of Mr. George Patrick and Ms. Geneva Collington. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, VA. Denise lived in Arlington, Tennessee, with her husband, Rodney, and is the mother of three children.
Known as a "98-pound powerhouse of inspiration," Denise was funny, with a really great sense of humor and an ever-present smile. Her colleagues knew her as a dedicated professional and a "true human being". In August of 2003, she started working at Le Bonheur, and she joined the Pedi-Flite team in July 2005 and served the team as a respiratory therapist.
On the early morning of October 22, 2013, Denise was working with Flight Nurse Carrie Barlow and Pilot Charles Smith. The crew planned to pick up a boy who was in renal failure at a Bolivar hospital and take him to Le Bonheur, but the helicopter never reached the destination. The crew took off, but approximately half way into the flight, the crew did not respond to a routine 10-minute check-in. Shortly thereafter, a search for the helicopter was started by land and air. The helicopter had crashed in a wooded area of Somerville, Tennessee about 45 miles east of Memphis. There were no survivors.
