Biography
"Michael was most influential in setting up a lot of training programs for paramedics and EMTs. He was a real go-getter kind of guy, a good instructor. He kept the attention of people that he taught. He was an energetic, enthusiastic human being," said Jamie Haddon, executive director of Second Alarmers. "He loved training people and helping people and definitely made it his life's love. It is a huge loss to the area, he was very dedicated."<br /> <br /> Michael "Boz" Garvin, 39, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, died in the line of duty on October 19, 2008. Mike was on call when he became ill and was taken to Central Montgomery Hospital, where he later died.<br /> <br /> "Boz" was a 16-year veteran paramedic of Second Alarmers. While with Second Alarmers, Garvin served in various roles, including assurance coordinator, webmaster, communications officer, training officer and bloodhound team leader. He spent ten days of service with the Montgomery County EMS strike team providing assistance to victims of Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana. He received many honors for his service, including Employee of the Year in 2005.<br /> <br /> Paramedic Garvin enjoyed training search dogs, playing drums, computers and watching Hogan's Heroes. Michael was the proud father of one son, the light of his life. He will be sorely missed.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009
