Biography
Tammy was a midwife, in addition to a mother of a large family, and she was due to have her baby any day. She loved her children and she loved her job in Emergency Medical Services. Why she had to be taken from her large loving family is hard to understand. Southwest veteran paramedic and union president Gary August said that crews in that part of the state are very close. " She is like family, she is like a sister. Tammy was a special person, with so much energy. She was a devoted mother and a good paramedic." .

Tammy, 29, of Mesa, Arizona, was killed in the line of duty on April 28, 2004. Tammy, along with another paramedic, was transporting an inmate and a corrections officer from the Arizona State Prison Complex-Florence to a hospital. Nearing an intersection the three-vehicle collision occurred, including an 18-wheeler gravel truck. Tammy and her unborn child lost their lives in the crash.

She had been with Southwest Ambulance for about two years. Southwest's units in central Arizona are involved with rural EMS response, providing the only paramedic response in the area.

Tammy, a young mother of six children and a good emergency medical worker enjoyed every minute of living and that makes it easier to say good-bye to her.

Honored 2008
