Biography
They always seem to stand out; they all seem to be kind. The flight paramedic is well trained and his work is most often achieved under strained conditions. They are already heroes by the work they achieve when they take to the skies to save lives.Patrick W. "Pat" Scollard, 40, lost his life in the line of duty in an aero medical crash on June 21, 2002. He was part of a medical team en route to retrieve an injured child, transporting him to O'Neill Hospital in Nebraska. The helicopter was about three miles into its flight when it spun out of control while attempting to land at the Karl Stefan Memorial Airport. All aboard perished in the crash.Mr. Scollard, of Sioux City, was a paramedic with LifeNet of the Heartland. He had worked for the agency for only six months, however, was a mentor to many LifeNet paramedics in training before joining the service full time. He was a 15-year veteran paramedic who had gained the respect of all he worked with and in the community. "He was one of the most admired paramedics in the Omaha area. His work was exceptional; we were so proud to have him as part of our team," stated Lee McCammon, Program Director for LifeNet of the Heartland.Honored 2006
