Idris Bey died from COVID-19 contracted in the line-of-duty. He was a 27-year EMS veteran and assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center in 2001. EMT Bey previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps before becoming an emergency medical technician at station 35 in Williamsburg. After 9-11, he was assigned to the FDNY's EMS Bureau of Training. While at the EMS Training Academy at Fort Totten, he was known as a popular CFR Instructor who also taught emergency medical care. During his extraordinary career, he responded to countless calls for help in Brooklyn. He then took his experience and dedication to the academy where he was responsible for the lifesaving training of by thousands of FDNY members. |
