After retiring with 20 years of service with the Philadelphia Fire Department, Nile Linn, Sr., moved to Sea Isle City, N. J., becoming very active in community and emergency medical organizations.

Nile worked 10 years as a firefighter and 10 years as Chief's Aide with Battalion 9 in Philadelphia and served as Union Steward in the I. A. F. F. - Local 22, before his retirement. The father of four children, Nile, belonged to the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church and later the Sea Isle City Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge #81 and the Ocean City Masonic Club. Nile was also active in the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Association, the Sea Isle City Republican Club, the Townsends Inlet Yacht Club and the Chestnut Hill Bocce Club.

After moving to Sea Isle City in 1963, Nile joined the Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Department and the Sea Isle Volunteer Ambulance Corps and also worked part-time as a dispatcher for the Sea Isle City Police Department in New Jersey. On July 15, 1972, the Sea Isle City Police received a radio call from the U. S. Coast Guard of a boating accident involving two people.

After loading a patient at the scene, gusting winds blew the ambulance door, striking Nile in the chest and head. Nile collapsed in cardiac arrest and died after unsuccessful resuscitation attempts at the scene. Although only serving as a member of the Sea Isle Ambulance Corps and Fire Department for four years, Nile was a faithful, devoted, caring volunteer who was always there when needed.

He will be sorely missed by his family, fellow rescue and fire members and the Sea Isle community. The local Chamber of Commerce paid tribute to Nile during the annual awards dinner presenting an award on his behalf.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons and two daughters; and eight grandchildren. Son, David is following in his father's footstepsas a firefighter in Philadelphia.
