At the age of 18, while still in high school, Mark began helping others when he joined the Poultney Rescue Squad as an Emergency Care Attendant. In 1988, he graduated high school and enlisted in the Army Reserves where he served 16 years as a communications signaler with the 368 Engineer Battalion. Throughout his years at Poultney, Mark gained many certifications including EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, Vermont Instructor Coordinator, and CPR instructor. Not only was Mark an employee of the Fair Haven and Poultney Rescue Squads, he was an active volunteer member of Poultney. Camara held all officer positions at the Poultney Rescue Squad and spent the last two years as its president. Mark was also an active member of the Poultney Volunteer Fire Department. His love for educating others often found him teaching numerous classes, both for Poultney Rescue, Vermont EMS District 10 and CPR classes for numerous local businesses. It was not uncommon to find Mark spending many hours teaching new members patient care skills, how to use the equipment, and how to drive the ambulances. Mark had many other passions as well. He loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. But above all, and most importantly, he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his loving wife and son. On the afternoon of October 7, 2011 Mark had to work on a schedule for his squad to cover football games. He decided to go home while on duty to work on the schedule in a quiet place. About two hours later his wife found him in cardiac arrest. Mark was treated at the scene with the combined efforts of the Fair Haven Rescue Squad, Poultney Rescue Squad, and the Poultney Fire Department. He was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. <br />
