Biography
"When she entered a room she got your attention immediately and held it with her love for life." Casey was born and raised in a very small town in central Louisiana, the third child of four. She attended college to become a nurse and while in school one of her fellow classmates told Casey she ought to go to EMT school. She followed this advice and became an EMT Basic. Her instructor said she "was the kind of student that made it worthwhile to teach. She loved learning and wanted to know everything." She worked part time on an ambulance and fell in love with it. She loved spending time with geriatric patients and loved to hear their stories.

Casey's greatest love in this world was family. She is the mother of 4 wonderful children and a wife that her husband always dreamed of. When any of her 4 children, who are very involved in extra curricular activities, had a game or event she was always in attendance. Although she may not have understood the rules of the game, she was always there cheering her children on. She also has a very large extended family that she adored.

Casey was a person who, once someone met her, they would never forget. She was always smiling and was the life of any party or event. She could make you laugh until you cry. Her older brother says: "Casey had the ability to see a person for who they really are and the courage and mouth to point that out to a person."

On the morning of October 13, 2010, crewmembers arriving for work smelled gas upon entering the White Oak station. After searching the station Casey Steenland, 33, was found, along with two other crewmembers, unconscious from carbon monoxide exposure. Casey was pulseless and apneic; efforts to revive her failed. It is believed that a generator left on in an ambulance parked inside the station caused fumes.

Honored 2011
