He had more nicknames than could be listed; most people called him Shrine. Shawn Baker devoted his life to saving others and providing comfort to those in their time of need. He so loved his work that he took great pride in teaching the "art" of EMS to those entering the field. However, this love was second only to that of his wife, family, and his dog. He took his passion for dogs and became a master dog trainer, yet another display of his love for teaching. Shawn was a member of the Middleport Fire Department and the Middleport Church of Christ. His coworkers referred to him as the spiritual leader of MedFlight 3.<br />

Shawn Baker, 42, died of an on-duty cardiac event on the evening of Tuesday, October 19, 2010, while on duty at the MedFlight3 Wellston Base. Shawn has been a long-term, dedicated, MedFlight partner serving in the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) division as well as the Rotor Wing Division since 1998. He will be greatly missed, not only for his sense of humor and fun-loving demeanor, but also for his dedication to the people he worked with and the patients he cared for. Shawn worked tirelessly in Southern Ohio educating others on patient care and giving back to the community.<br />

Since Shawn's death, a memorial scholarship program has been created in his honor for students pursuing EMT and Paramedic certification.<br />
