It is said that heroes are hard to come by. They are like eagles; they don't flock together but must be found one at a time. This describes Dell Waugh. He was an outstanding person, had a life full of experience and intelligence. He loved the flight for life program and was so proud to be a part of that group.<br />

Dell Waugh, 69, died in the line of duty on October 15, 2008. He was one of a three-man medical team involved in a patient transfer when the helicopter he was piloting struck a radio tower wire and crashed in a field in Aurora, Illinois.<br />

Dell had been employed as a pilot with Air Angels for three years. He was a dedicated pilot who was passionate about his job of saving lives. He was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, with thousands of hours of flying experience. Waugh was awarded the Purple Heart after his helicopter was shot down in Vietnam.<br />
<br />
Pilot Dell Waugh was a beloved father and grandfather and he will be sorely missed.<br />
