Biography
The state flag of Wisconsin was flown at half-staff across the state in honor of the EMT who gave so much of himself to help and save others. He served the people of Mount Horeb and the people of Wisconsin with distinction and honor, saving many lives.<br /> <br /> Merlin Casey, 66, of Mount Horeb, died in the line of duty on May 10, 2003. He was the driver of the ambulance on call waiting for the patient to be loaded, when his crew noticed he was slumped over the steering wheel. They made a valiant effort to save Casey's life; however, he died later at Madison Hospital in Wisconsin.<br /> <br /> Casey was a 22-year veteran of the Emergency Medical Service working as an EMT. He was a member of Mount Horeb Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, joining the same year it was organized in 1976. He was a charter member and loved his volunteer job.<br /> <br /> Casey was a retired art teacher and audio-visual coordinator for Mount Horeb High School. Being a solid member of EMS and the fire department, the community has lost a valuable person.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009
