Joseph was a very spiritual individual, kind, gentle, and had a good sense of humor. He was deeply affected by his patients, and he always tried to keep in touch with them. He believed that the work he did was a gift from God, and if you ever saw him with his patients you certainly knew that it was a story that needed no backing up.
Joseph Daniel "Danny" Villiaros, 39, of Millani, Hawaii, was killed in the line of duty on January 31, 2004, when the Hawaii Air Ambulance plane he was aboard crashed into the densely forested slopes of Mauna Kea on the Big Island. The plane was reported missing after failing to make a scheduled arrival at Hilo Airport to pick up a nine-year-old patient for transport to Honolulu, Hawaii. The twisted wreckage was found in a very dense area along the coastline of Mauma Kia on Big Island.
He was a fight paramedic for Hawaii Air Ambulance working there for a year. Danny was also a Hawaii firefighter, based at the Walau Fire Station.
Danny's daughter told of how he taught her to surf and would spend time with her shopping at the mall. "He was a pretty cool dad," she said.
