Biography
Young Matthew had great insight to the needs of others; this was significantly shown when he decided to become an organ donor. Others live because a young healthy emergency medical technician thought that donating organs was the "right thing to do". Everyone who knew Matthew was not surprised that he would donate his organs. "It's just a testament to what a fantastic guy he was and how dedicated he was to the medical profession," stated Dan Roberts, a spokesman for Empire State Ambulance.

Matthew Lamb, 25, of Lake Carmel, New York, died in the Line of Duty on November 8, 2007. The emergency medical worker and his partner were returning from a medical call when the accident occurred. Lamb was riding in the back of the ambulance when the out of control rescue vehicle slammed into a tree injuring Matthew. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he later died.

Matthew was a full-time paramedic with the Empire State Ambulance Corporation, located in Fishkill, New York. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Carmel Fire Department for nine years, receiving the Chief's Award in 2005. He also served his community as an emergency medical worker with VPA.

"Matt loved and was dedicated to every aspect of the emergency services," stated Chief Daryl Johnson. "He was energetic and always willing to help out. He would do whatever he could do to help little children. This young man will be greatly missed," he stated.

Honored 2008
