Biography
He loved life. His bright wide smile will be missed so much. He loved his job flying EMS. Heinz was thrilled when he became a United States citizen in 1984. He spent hours listening to classical music, and loved cross-county skiing, long distance cycling and hiking with his lovely wife. We have lost a man full of passion for life, which he wanted for every one of his patients.<br /> <br /> Heinz Schulz, 61, was killed in an aero medical accident on October 7, 2005. Mr. Schulz had flown to a hospital in McKean County, Pennsylvania, where he was to pick up a patient to be transported to another hospital. Schulz took off to make a short refueling flight while two crewmembers went into the hospital to prepare the patient for the trip. He was not heard from after he made a short radio contact stating his flight plan. The helicopter went down in a densely wooded area. Hundreds of volunteers searched for the plane with all-terrain vehicles, by foot, and by police helicopter. The crash scene was located two days later. Mr. Schulz had died upon impact.<br /> <br /> Mr. Schulz, of Erie, Pennsylvania, was an 18-year veteran of the Emergy/LifeStar Agency. He was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1970 for flight training. His previous service included a career as an Aerial Patrol in Ohio He went to work for Shands Care in Gainesville, Florida where he fell in love with EMS. He stated he found his meaning in life when he started his flying career in emergency service.<br /> <br /> Honored 2006
