Biography
Sunday dinner was completed, the television turned on, and everyone was prepared to relax on a warm lazy afternoon. A local broadcaster interrupted the program to report on a tornado that had touched down nearby. Tye immediately called the rescue station where he worked as an emergency medical worker. When no one answered, he looked at his partner, the two in unison stood up, looked again at each other, and Tye said, "Dad, we got to go. They need us." The somber father stated that was his son, always ready to go, always ready to help.

Tye Patrick Brown, 31, of Shawnee, Kansas, lost his life in the line of duty on April 3, 2004. He worked as an emergency medical technician for the Edwardsville Fire Station. Completing a medical call, Tye and his partner arrived back at the fire station. Opening the wide bay door and backing their ambulance into the garage, the two were unaware that a trap had been set. A man slipped inside the fire station as the doors opened. He fatally shot both Tye and his partner as they exited the rescue vehicle. The two rescuers were very defenseless and were shot at close range.

Mr. Brown had worked for Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust (Mast) since 1999. He was a Certified Tech, and was a Child Protection System Technician as well as a Training Officer.

Honored 2005
