"He was well known in his community, and participated in community efforts. He was an all-around person, good husband, good pilot, and wore the Maryland State Police Uniform with pride," said Donna Hagey, of the Maryland State Police.<br />

Gregory May was killed when the helicopter he was piloting encountered Instrument Meteorological Conditions and crashed in Leakin Park, located in Baltimore City, Maryland. His crew also perished in the accident, the date was January 19, 1986. The crew had been dispatched from the Frederick Airport, in Frederick County, to Carroll County, for a gunshot victim. The victim was transported to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore, Maryland.<br />

Corporal/Technical May was a commercially rated helicopter pilot. He was a sworn uniformed member of the Maryland State Police, and was totally dedicated to his job, both as a helicopter pilot and a Maryland State Trooper. His death caused the Maryland State Police to look for a more powerful and safer aircraft.<br />

Gregory A. May, 31, is survived by his wife, Pamela Schultheis, and one son.<br />
